About Us

The BackStitch was started back in 1986 on the front porch in a family home. After deciding more space was needed, it found its home above the local grocery store and then several years later found it needed to expand again. Today we are located at 108 South Main Street in Historic Downtown Elkader, Iowa.

Karen Jackson has owned the business since 1993. Even though she maintains a full time job in another town, she is very active with the business and you'll frequently find her in the shop on the weekends.

The shop could not run without the help from Karen's faithful employees. They are a very talented group and are always busy working on shop samples for both the quilting and cross stitch sides. They are always more than happy to help you with your next quilting and cross stitch projets.
